Description:
This presentation will focus on the changing energy codes and how they affect commercial wall assemblies. The somewhat confusing concept of continuous insulation (CI) and how it is used throughout the codes will be discussed at length. The NFPA 285 fire test and its role in code-compliant wall assemblies will also be discussed for commercial building types 1–4. There are many types of insulation that can be used in commercial wall assemblies. We will discuss polyisocyanurate insulation’s thermal performance, physical properties, and compliance attributes, and how polyiso compares with other types of insulation.

Understand the advancement of National Model Energy Codes as they relate to the energy efficiency of the building envelope.
Define and understand “continuous insulation” and how its use affects energy code compliance, current ASHRAE standards, LEED, and the International Energy Conservation Code.

Understand the benefits or various materials that are commonly used for CI.
